October

I love October-it is by far my favorite month of the year. The cool weather and changing leaves always have me craving everything pumpkin. Over the years, I've worked on this pumpkin bread recipe and finally perfected just the right balance of flavor and warm spices, while keeping it tender and moist.

This recipe makes two pretty good-sized loaves, so give one away, freeze one for later…or eat them both. I won't judge!

2 cups pumpkin puree
4 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp baking soda
3 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp salt
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup oil (I melt 1/2 coconut oil and 1/2 c butter) but you can use canola or grapeseed oil

From strawberries in early summer to raspberries and blackberries later in the season, berry picking is one of the sweetest traditions in the Treasure Valley. Whether you're gathering a basket at a local U-pick farm, browsing the farmers market, or stocking up to make homemade treats, summer berries are a delicious way to celebrate the season.

There's something about summer in the Treasure Valley that makes barbecue feel like the perfect plan for lunch or dinner. Longer evenings, patio weather, and weekends spent outside all pair well with smoky brisket, ribs, and classic comfort sides. Luckily, Boise and the surrounding communities have no shortage of great local spots to choose from. Many of these restaurants also offer convenient takeout options, making them perfect for enjoying at home, hosting guests, or feeding a larger family gathering without spending all day cooking.

Bodacious Pig has become a longtime local favorite for good reason. Known especially for its flavorful tri-tip and signature "Pig Candy" brown sugar-glazed bacon, it's the kind of place people return to again and again. The atmosphere is relaxed, the portions are generous, an...

As the days grow cooler and the leaves turn golden, fall invites us to slow down and savor the season. And what better way to do that than with a warm drink in hand? Whether it's a tea latte, a spiced coffee creamer, or a homemade syrup, these cozy creations make your kitchen feel like a café.

This month, we're sharing four easy recipes to enjoy at home. Not only do you control the sweetness and ingredients (at a fraction of the cost), but your home will smell amazing.

Pro tip: if you really want to take your homemade drinks to the next level, invest in a milk frother. It's a small upgrade that makes every latte, steamer, or hot cocoa taste 100% café-worthy.

Growing up, we always had a garden—and my grandparents planted enough to feed the whole neighborhood. In the summer, most of our dinners revolved around whatever the garden gave us. I remember plates full of corn on the cob, pickled beets, fresh green beans and peas, and big, juicy tomatoes still warm from the sun.

These recipes are a few of the ones I remember my mom or grandma making, using whatever was fresh and ready to eat. You don't need a backyard garden to enjoy them—just stop by your local farmer's market and you'll be inspired by the colors, flavors, and abundance summer always brings.
